Olathe teen allegedly shot man during robbery set up on Craigslist and Facebook
A 19-year-old Olathe man has been charged with shooting another man in Shawnee last month while trying to rob the victim.
Tyriq Aziz Handy is also charged with pistol-whipping another man in Overland Park in July.
In the Shawnee incident, the victim had contact with someone online to sell a paintball gun, according to court documents.
On Sept. 21, he left his apartment in the 7600 block of King Street to meet the person for the sale when he was confronted by two men.
There was a struggle, and one of the other men shot the victim in abdomen, according to the documents. The victim survived.
The suspects fled, but investigators were able to use DNA testing to link Handy to evidence at the scene.
Handy is charged in that case in Johnson County District Court with aggravated battery and attempted aggravated robbery.
During the Overland Park incident on July 26, Handy allegedly struck another person on the head with a gun, causing a laceration that required several stitches to close.
He is charged with aggravated battery in that case.
