Registered sex offender in Overland Park faces new felony charges

A 45-year-old registered sex offender in Overland Park is facing new sex crime charges involving a teenage alleged victim.

Richard James Barrett is charged in Johnson County District Court with felony counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child, sodomy and indecent solicitation.

He was booked into the Johnson County Jail Friday morning and is being held on a bond of $250,000.

The alleged crimes occurred between May and October last year and involved a teen victim, according to court documents.

Barrett has a previous felony conviction in Platte County for enticement of a child, according to Missouri court records, and is currently listed on the Kansas sex offender registry.

He made his first court appearance on the new charges Friday afternoon and is due back in court on Sept. 21.
