Former Kansas City bank employee pleas guilty to embezzlement
A former Kansas City bank employee admitted in federal court Thursday she stole up to $1 million from her employer and failed to pay taxes on the income.
Jennifer Regans, 39, of Kansas City pleaded guilty to federal embezzlement charges and filing a false tax return.
Regans worked as an administrative assistant for Pioneer Services, the military banking division of MidCountry Bank in Kansas City. She admitted to embezzling at least $500,000 from the bank from Nov. 30, 2007, to July 2, 2012. Federal authorities said they believe the actual loss was just more than $1 million.
The IRS determined that she should have paid at least $139,746 in federal income taxes on the money.
The fraud was discovered after American Express notified the bank that Regans’ corporate credit card was past due. An audit was conducted. She was terminated on July 18, 2012.
