Pedestrian struck while walking on shoulder of Interstate 70

A pedestrian was struck by a pickup early Saturday while walking on the shoulder of eastbound Interstate 70 at Little Blue Parkway in Independence.

The accident occurred shortly after midnight. The pedestrian was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. Police did not release the names and ages of those involved in the accident.

The driver and a passenger in the pickup truck were not injured. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
