Kansas City police seek tips in 2012 slaying

Kansas City police are asking the public for assistance regarding an unsolved homicide from three years ago.

Investigators are looking for information in the March 26, 2012, killing of Charles R. Bates, 24.

According to court records, police found Bates about 4:30 p.m. lying face-down in the doorway of a home near 80th Street and Brooklyn Avenue. He died later at a hospital.

Witnesses told investigators they saw Bates leave a car after being shot. Another man emerged from the passenger side, pointed a gun at Bates and fled.

Jackson County prosecutors charged a suspect two months later with second-degree murder and armed criminal action. But they eventually released that person due to lack witness cooperation.

Police ask anyone with information to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
