Grandview police fire beanbag projectiles at suicidal man

Grandview police on Monday fired beanbag projectiles to subdue a suicidal man who approached officers with a knife.

Police were called shortly before 2 p.m. to an apartment in the 15400 block of Bellaire Avenue on a report that a man was threatening to commit “suicide by cop.” He had a knife about 13 inches long and, during negotiations with police, he began cutting his own arms. He then hung up the phone, opened the door with the knife and moved toward officers.

The officers fired two projectiles, which brought the man down. He was taken to a hospital for a mental evaluation.
