Update: One dead, one injured in Westport double shooting

One man was killed and a woman was wounded in a shooting Sunday night on the back deck at Californos Restaurant at Pennsylvania and Archibald avenues in Westport.

The incident happened about 8:30 p.m. when there were an estimated 200 people in the vicinity, said police spokesman Officer Darin Snapp.

The man died at the scene. The woman was taken to a hospital with a shot in the arm. Her injury was not considered life-threatening.

Both shooting victims appeared to be in their mid-20s. It was not clear whether the woman was with the man who was killed.

The suspect left the scene with three other people.

“When we got here there were people running everywhere,” Snapp said. “So we’re just now getting people to come back. We’ve got several witnesses that we’ve got to talk to.”

Police are also checking for surveillance video from nearby businesses.
