Cass County authorities arrest two after chase

Authorities in Cass County arrested two area residents on controlled substance charges Saturday after a chase that began in Henry County.

The occupants of a vehicle heading north on Missouri 7, suspected in a Henry County burglary, had fled a traffic stop near Clinton.

As the vehicle travelled into Cass County, the pilot of a Missouri State Highway Patrol aircraft assisted troopers and Cass County Sheriff’s deputies in successfully deploying stop sticks. As the vehicle slowed, troopers observed the occupants throwing drug paraphernalia and credit cards out of its windows. The vehicle stopped after heading the wrong way on Interstate 49 in Harrisonville.

Authorities arrested the vehicle’s driver, Carrie L. Bates, 38, of Lee’s Summit, and passenger Jacob R. Fansler, 25, of Harrisonville.

Another passenger and her infant child also were in the vehicle but were released at the scene.
