Independence police investigate shooting at Burger King

Independence police are investigating a shooting that left at least one person injured Monday morning at a Burger King on U.S. 24.

Police responded to the shooting shortly after 9:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the Burger King at 16901 East U.S. 24. Officers found a man with a gunshot wound who said someone in a red Chevrolet had shot him.

While checking the area, police found a vehicle matching that description in the backyard of a duplex in the 400 block of North Kendall Drive. Among several people present there, officers found a second person with gunshot injuries.

Both of the injured people were taken to a hospital. Neither had injuries that appeared to be life-threatening, according to police.
