Raytown video shows clerk turn tables during armed robbery
The robber sauntered into the gas station convenience store — but he left in a panic.
Raytown police released video of an armed robbery Wednesday that didn’t turn out according to plan. The clerk was wary of the man in a striped hoodie and blue shorts. He tried to pull the door to his glass protection booth shut, but the robber grabbed it and pulled the clerk to the floor.
After a brief struggle, the robber went to make his escape. But the clerk had locked the front door to the store.
Frantic, the robber started shooting at the door and pushed his way through the shattered glass.
In doing so, he dropped the money and a handful of individually wrapped condoms he had just stolen onto the floor.
It happened about 7:45 a.m. Wednesday at the Phillips 66 station on East 87th Street.
Police believe an accomplice remained outside the store. The robber was last seen running south on foot.
No one was injured by the gunfire.
Police ask anyone with information about the identity of the robber to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
