Reward for information about cousins’ shooting deaths reaches $2,500

A reward for information leading to the arrest in the August 2016 shooting deaths of two cousins who were found inside of a residence on College Avenue is now $2,500.

Montell Ross, 8, and his 9-year-old cousin Jayden Ugwuh were fatally wounded early Aug. 13 in the 5700 block of College Avenue as someone fired at least 20 gunshots inside their home. A 16-year-old girl also was hit, but her injuries were not life-threatening.

An anonymous donation of $500 was added to the existing reward, bringing the amount to $2,500.

Police have not said what they think led to the shootings. One boy was declared dead soon after reaching the hospital, and the second boy died later.

The cousins attended Hogan Preparatory Academy and were described by relatives as inseparable.

Anyone with information should call the Tips Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
