Man with history of DWI accused of causing fatal I-435 wreck
A 34-year-old man with a history of driving while intoxicated has been charged with felony DWI in connection with a fatal wreck Wednesday on Interstate 435.
Terry M. Jones of Raytown is accused of causing a wreck that killed a woman about 9:45 p.m. near I-435 and Oldham Road.
Prosecutors say Jones was traveling at a high rate of speed and lost control, crossed over the center median and entered southbound lanes.
At least eight vehicles were involved in the collision, prosecutors said. The driver of one vehicle, Hawa A. Mohamud, died as a result of her injuries.
Police said a DUI officer responding to the scene detected the strong odor of alcohol, but Jones refused to submit to a blood test.
Officers obtained a search warrant to draw a sample of Jones’ blood for analysis. Jones, officials said, was previously convicted of DWI in Jackson County.
