Gunman barricades himself inside Independence residence

Independence police have surrounded a house where a gunman has barricaded himself inside at Truman Road and North Forest Street.

Police were summoned to the area about 11 a.m. in response to shots being fired. There were no reported injuries. As officers arrived, the gunman fled inside a nearby residence and refused to surrender, said Tom Gentry, police spokesman.

No other details were immediately available.
