KC man arrested in St. Louis after I-70 shootout with police
ST. LOUIS — A Kansas City man is in custody after leading police on a multi-county chase, shooting at several cars on Interstate 70 and injuring two people, one of whom is in critical condition.
St. Ann Police Chief Aaron Jimenez says the suspect also shot multiple times at officers, who returned fire, before arresting him. Neither the suspect nor officers were shot.
Jimenez says the 22-year-old man told authorities he had “snapped” because of a girlfriend.
Police say the incident on eastbbound Interstate 70 began Wednesday night in Warren County and ended near the Lambert-St. Louis International Airport.
The chase eventually ended after Jimenez says the suspect jumped out of his vehicle and fired shots toward several officers running near him.
Officers returned fire and arrested the man.
Jimenez said the incident “was the craziest thing I had ever seen in 18 years of law enforcement. He had zero regard for any human being, period.”
