Pedestrian struck, killed on I-435 near Cookingham on Friday night

A pedestrian on Interstate 435 and Cookingham Drive in Kansas City died after being struck by a vehicle late Friday night.

Kansas City police say a Dodge pickup truck was driving southbound on I-435 in northern Kansas City when it hit a pedestrian that had stepped from the shoulder into the traffic lane.

The pedestrian, who has not yet been identified, was taken to a hospital and later died.

The driver stopped and gave a statement to investigators, according to police.
