KC man sentenced to prison in 2016 fatal crash on Holmes Road
A Kansas City man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for his part in a wreck last year that killed a 72-year-old man.
Gabriel B. Cornelius, 40, pleaded guilty June 29 in Jackson County Circuit Court to one count of first-degree involuntary manslaughter.
He was accused of causing the death of Gary Dramshek in an Aug. 15 wreck at 115th Street and Holmes Road.
Prosecutors said Cornelius was speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs when his pickup truck collided with a car driven by Dramshek.
Police said at the time that Cornelius was driving behind Dramshek on Holmes. When Dramshek turned left onto 115th Street, Cornelius’ vehicle swerved to the left and struck Dramshek’s vehicle on the driver’s door.
Dramshek’s vehicle went off the road and struck a gas main.
Cornelius was sentenced to seven years with credit for time served.
