Police officers responded about 11:30 p.m. to the 11900 block of West 49th Street, where the attempted auto theft was reported.

A group of people had tried to intervene in the theft, and suspects fired five or six shots at them, according to police. No injuries were reported.

The suspects fled the scene in a white Honda Civic previously reported stolen in Kansas City, last seen headed southbound in the 8500 block of Quivira Road.

Police continued to investigate the incident.
