No gun, but reported threat on OP college campus wasn’t hoax, police say
Although an extensive search and review of surveillance camera footage didn’t turn up a suspect, officials said Thursday’s gun scare at Johnson County Community College was not a hoax.
“Somebody saw something that they believed to be a firearm,” said Dan Robles of the college’s police department. “We treated it as a serious threat.”
The college was locked down for several hours and classes were canceled while officers searched buildings on the Overland Park campus after someone reported seeing a woman with a firearm.
Initially, there was conflicting information about how many people reported seeing the woman, but on Friday Robles said only one person made the report. A second person who also called police had only overheard the first person calling in his or her report, Robles said.
