Video cameras on board a Kansas City Area Transportation Authority captured a rolling gunbattle that ended in a crash in the 3900 block of Prospect last Thursday. One of the cars narrowly missed crashing into the bus.

Video cameras aboard a RideKC bus captured a car involved in a rolling gunbattle careen out of control and crash into a light pole last week.

The crash occurred about 8:10 p.m. Thursday near 36th Street and Prospect Avenue, but the gunbattle appears to have stretched for a few blocks, according to police.

Police responded to the area on reports of shots being fired. While en route, numerous additional calls came in reporting that shots were being fired.

Upon arrival, police found an abandoned gold Chevrolet Malibu that had been involved in a hit-and-run crash with a RideKC bus.

In video from a forward-facing camera aboard the bus, the car can be seen careening out of control as it passes in front of the bus, narrowly missing a head-on collision.

The bus clipped the rear of the car as it goes by. A camera on the right side of the bus shows the car slamming into a tree and light pole.

Another side view, this time on the left of the bus, shows the bus swerving to miss the collision.

The bus was not the target of the rolling gunbattle and at no time did it come under fire, said Cindy Baker, chief communications officer for RideKC.

No one aboard the bus was injured.

Police said the driver and passenger in the Malibu fled prior to police arriving. A shooting victim, however, showed up at a hospital a short time later, according to police.
