Convicted killer of Shawnee liquor store owner loses appeal
The Kansas Supreme Court on Friday upheld a Kansas City man’s conviction in the 2010 killing of a Shawnee liquor store owner.
Gerry Grovenburg owned Mr. G’s Liquor Store at 76th Street and Quivira Road for 35 years. He was fatally shot during an attempted robbery in May 2010.
Bruce Julius Ashley Jr. was found guilty of first-degree murder in Grovenburg’s death and was sentenced to life in prison.
Ashley, now 34, appealed, but the Supreme Court on Friday unanimously upheld the conviction.
