Police investigating aggravated assault near UMKC campus
Authorities are investigating an aggravated assault that occurred near the University of Missouri-Kansas City after a woman told Kansas City police a person she knows shot at her.
The woman told police a person in a silver 2000-2003 Pontiac Grand Am pulled beside her vehicle and fired a pistol at her about 9:15 p.m. Wednesday near 51st Street and Troost Avenue.
The crime was reported Thursday, and UMKC officials put out a school-wide alert Friday.
The shot hit neither the woman nor her vehicle, campus officials said in a letter sent to students and staff.
The woman, who was not injured, told police she knows the suspect.
