Police say they nabbed McChicken brawler who was caught on video from the drive-thru
Police have arrested a woman who was allegedly caught on camera brawling with McDonald’s employees Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa, because she was upset that her McChicken order was taking too long.
Des Moines police arrested Valerie Shepherd, 21, on Tuesday, The Des Moines Register reports. She has been charged with assault causing injury and disorderly conduct.
Amanda Garland Gravely of Ankeny, Iowa, was sitting in the drive-thru with her husband and children when she saw the customer become belligerent with employees inside.
“I heard screaming and ranting from this lady, so I was going to record her to show how crazy people get at fast food,” she told The Star on Monday “Then it just escalated a lot quicker than I expected. The manager was on the phone with the police when the woman attacked.”
According to KCCI Television, the incident began when the customer wasn’t getting her McChicken sandwiches served quickly enough. She was accompanied by two men.
Once the food is delivered, the video shows her tossing the food back at the manager. She is seen climbing over the counter and hitting the employee. Eventually, the woman and the two men she was with leave.
Gravely said Monday that she was still a little surprised at the response to her video, which has gone viral.
“Well, it started out my kids had been really good all day, so I decided to treat them to McDonald’s ice cream,” she said. “I never knew it would go this far.”
