Registered sex offender is accused of raping girl in Independence

An Independence man previously convicted of possessing child pornography was charged Thursday with sexually assaulting a child younger than 12.

Jackson County prosecutors charged Buddy James Wickizer with statutory rape. Prosecutors requested a $250,000 bond.

Wickizer, 32, was placed on probation last year after pleading guilty to possessing child pornography. He was required to register with the state as a convicted sex offender, court records show.

According to court documents filed Thursday, the victim reported the sexual assault last month and described multiple incidents that occurred in Independence when she was 9 or 10 years old. She is now 11.

She also was the victim in the child pornography case, according to the court documents.

If Wickizer posts bond, he cannot have contact with minors or go within 1,000 feet of a school or a boys or girls club.
