Platte City man found dead inside Platte County jail

Authorities were investigating the possible suicide of a 41-year-old man found dead at the Platte County Detention Center.

Matthew Ray Harrold of Platte City was found dead shortly before 10 a.m. Monday near a day room at the jail.

According to the Platte County Sheriff’s Office, there were no indications of foul play. Investigators said Harrold’s death appeared to be suicide by hanging.

He was being held on the charges of first-degree sexual misconduct and resisting arrest by fleeing.

Harrold was in custody for 10 days prior to his death, authorities said.
