Kansas City area workers charged with unemployment benefit fraud
A Kansas federal grand jury has charged 16 area workers with fraudulently receiving unemployment benefits.
The separate indictments, returned Wednesday, charged each of the workers with submitting false reports to the Kansas Department of Labor even though they were working for the Keebler Co. in Kansas City, Kan.
A company spokesman said those charged include both current and former employees.
Each of the workers were charged with one count of theft of government funds and one count of bank fraud.
Payments to the workers ranged from $10,168 to $31,466, court records alleged.
