Deputy shot during robbery is improving
The Wyandotte County deputy shot multiple times during a March 4 armed robbery has been removed from a ventilator and is breathing on his own.
Deputy Scott Wood has also been able to take a few steps, officials with the sheriff’s office said Friday.
News of Wood’s improving condition came as officials announced that a benefit breakfast raised more than $6,400 for Wood Friday morning at the Wyandotte County Courthouse.
Wood was off-duty and in uniform when he stopped to get something at a convenience store. Three robbers came in and shot him.
No charges have been filed, but three men being held on charges in another robbery are being investigated in connection with the attack.
