Independence man charged with statutory sodomy

An Independence man has been charged in connection with an alleged sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl.

Robert D. Hunt, 34, has been charged with one count of first-degree statutory sodomy, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced Monday.

According to court documents, the girl during a police interview said that Hunt twice had inappropriate contact with her in recent weeks. Hunt told the girl not to tell anyone and to delete messages from him, the victim told police.

Prosecutors have requested a bond of $100,000.
