KC man sentenced to 20 years for shooting girlfriend in neck
A Kansas City man convicted in a bench trial of shooting his girlfriend in the neck in 2013 received a 20-year prison sentence Friday.
According to court records, Derrick Day, 31, fired a shot into her car after following and crashing into it near Smart and North Oakley avenues on July 3, 2013. Though she identified him two days later as her attacker, she did not cooperate with prosecutors in the court case. She uses a wheelchair because of the injury, prosecutors said.
