Charges filed in robbery of 80-year-old woman in Overland Park

A 19-year-old Leawood man has been charged in the November purse snatching of an 80-year-old woman outside of an Overland Park Wal-Mart.

Bret L. Johnson was charged this week in Johnson County District Court with robbery. He is also charged with with several counts of identity theft and criminal use of a financial card for allegedly using the victim’s credit cards after the robbery.

The woman was not injured in the November 3 incident. She was walking in the store parking lot in the 11700 block of Metcalf Avenue when a man walked up and yanked her purse away.

Johnson has been held in the Johnson County Jail since early February, when he was charged with breaking into several cars in an unrelated case, according to court records.

His bond in the robbery case is set at $50,000.
