Man shot by KCK police out of hospital

A man shot Saturday night after leading police on a chase in Kansas City, Kan., has been released from the hospital and is being held in the Wyandotte County Jail.

Timothy Ray Whittington, 34, was wanted for violating the terms of his release in a federal illegal firearms case, according to officials. Kansas City, Kan., police also said he was wanted for questioning in connection with a recent homicide.

Kansas City, Kan., police said that officers patrolling about 9:30 p.m. Saturday in the 1400 block of Kansas Avenue spotted Whittington driving a vehicle. He fled when officers tried to stop him. Officers pursued him to the 100 block of James Street where his vehicle crashed.

Whittington allegedly was armed with a handgun when he got out of the vehicle, police said.
