Assault charges filed against man wounded in hotel standoff with KCK police

Felony charges have been filed against the man arrested after a lengthy hotel standoff with Kansas City, Kan., police.

Jasper L. Cunningham, 36, is charged in Wyandotte County District Court with two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

Cunningham allegedly fired shots at officers and was wounded by return fire during the 9-hour standoff Friday at the Hilton Garden Inn at 5th Street and Minnesota Avenue.

No officers were injured. Cunningham was treated at a hospital for his injuries and booked into the Wyandotte County Jail later Friday.

He is now being held on a bond of $600,000.
