A 63-year-old man who robbed a Kansas City bank because he wanted to go back to prison got his wish granted Wednesday.

A federal judge sentenced Sidney A. Williams to 15 years in prison for the November 2015 robbery of the Bank Midwest at 7904 Ward Parkway.

Williams was armed with a revolver and wore a mask during the robbery.

But after he fled the bank, a bank security guard chased him down and tackled him.

A passer-by who saw the men struggling stepped in to help the guard.

After his arrest, Williams told investigators that the gun wasn’t loaded and he wanted to go back to prison, so he robbed the bank.
