Thieves targeting shoppers at Overland Park stores

Overland Park police are warning about a couple of thieves who distract shoppers and pilfer their purses.

Police said there were at least four reports over the weekend of thefts at grocery and department stores.

The thieves target women with their purses in shopping carts. One thief will approach the victim and distract them with conversation while their partner reaches into the purse and steals a wallet.

Police said one of the thieves was described a skinny white woman in her 40s with “bleach blond” hair and wearing glasses. She was wearing a dark coat with a fur-lined hood.
