Alleged KC burglar ingested 1.5 bottles of hand sanitizer before arrest, police say

Kansas City police arrested a man Saturday who they say ingested a bottle and a half of hand sanitizer after he allegedly broke into a Northland building and refused to come out.

Officers responded just before 7 p.m to the 10300 block of Northeast Pine Grove Drive on a reported non-residential burglary. They arrived and noticed the front glass door was broken and were told that a man was inside the building.

Police made several attempts to get the man to leave the building and surrender but were unsuccessful. They initially set up a perimeter around the building.

A K-9 officer entered the building and found the man inside a restroom. It appeared that the man had consumed a bottle and a half of hand sanitizer, police said.

The man refused medical treatment when paramedics arrived. No injuries were reported.

Police took the man to the Shoal Creek Patrol Division where he was booked. The break-in remains under investigation.
