A 16-year-old Olathe boy who pleaded guilty to attempted murder was sentenced Thursday to a juvenile detention facility until he is 22.

The boy was also sentenced for firing shots into two Olathe houses. No one was hurt in those shootings.

The attempted murder charge stemmed from the July 4 shooting of a man outside a Wal-Mart in the 13600 block of South Alden Street.

About a week before that incident, two houses in Olathe were struck by bullets, and the teen was linked to those shootings.

The teen was sentenced in the juvenile division of Johnson County District Court, and he will be on court supervision for two years after he is released from custody.

If he violates any conditions of the release, he could be required to serve an adult prison sentence of seven years and 10 months.
