KC police identify 27-year-old man found fatally shot on Bruce R. Watkins Drive

Kansas City police have released the name of a 27-year-old man who was found fatally shot during Thursday evening rush hour traffic at 85th Street and Bruce R. Watkins Drive.

James L. Hill of Kansas City was found by police after his car crashed. Police said Hill was southbound when his car struck a concrete barrier on the right shoulder, then bounced off the barrier, crossed lanes of traffic, and hit the steel wires on the left shoulder, where it came to rest.

Investigators have not said where exactly Hill was shot.

Police initially thought they were investigating an accident but discovered that Hill, who was in the driver’s seat, was unresponsive.

He died at the scene.

The collision caused the southbound lanes to be closed for several hours while investigators gathered evidence and interviewed witnesses.
