Kansas City, Kan., man sentenced for rape of 2-year-old girl

A 23-year-old Kansas City, Kan., man was sentenced Friday to 25 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 2-year-old girl.

Zachary Garrett was sentenced in Wyandotte County District Court where he pleaded guilty in October to charges of rape and aggravated criminal sodomy.

District Judge Wes Griffin called it an appalling case before he imposed consecutive sentences on the two charges.

Garrett declined an opportunity to speak before he was sentenced.

After he is released from prison, Garrett must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

The charges against Garrett were filed in June after he communicated online with undercover police investigators in southern Missouri and offered the 2-year-old for sex, according to Wyandotte County prosecutors.
