A Platte County man was charged with child endangerment after a child left in his care tested positive for methamphetamine.

Platte County prosecutors on Wednesday charged Christopher Keedy, 32, with one count of second-degree child endangerment, a misdemeanor.

Prosecutors said a 1-year-old child under Keedy’s watch tested positive for methamphetamine, amphetamine and Benadryl in August. The child is said to have ingested a pill while crawling on the floor.

Keedy allegedly told police he had previously used meth, including this past Memorial Day weekend and in June. He reportedly told police he must have dropped the pill then, and the child consumed it months later while playing on the floor.

According to court documents, the child’s sibling tested positive for Benadryl, but negative for methamphetamine.

A summons for Keedy to appear in court was issued Wednesday. He has a preliminary hearing scheduled Dec. 20 in Platte County.
