Mother of slain 4-year-old girl in Kansas City, Kan., hopes for justice

For a 4-year-old, Honesty Sanders displayed the wisdom of a soul who had lived before, her mother said Wednesday.

The little girl, who was a joy to everyone who knew her, died last June after she was hospitalized, the apparent victim of child abuse.

But her death was only recently ruled a homicide, and that six-month wait has been frustrating for Myra Price, who had to make the decision to have her child removed from life support after about a week.

“As soon as it happened, the doctor told me it wasn’t an accident,” Price said Wednesday.

She doesn’t know why it took so long, but Price said she is hopeful that whoever injured Honesty will soon be brought to justice.

According to Kansas City, Kan., police, officers were called on May 27 to the 700 block of Vermont Avenue, where they found Honesty unconscious on the floor of an apartment.

Officers began CPR, and the little girl was taken to a hospital but never regained consciousness.

Kansas City, Kan., police were waiting for the final autopsy report before ruling the death a homicide.

Honesty had been living with relatives of her father’s for several months before she was hospitalized, and the relatives wouldn’t let her mother see her, Price said.

“I didn’t get to see her for seven months,” Price said.

Honesty was the kind of child who was always smiling and kind to other people, she said.

She loved to pose for pictures, have her nails painted and wear “girlie” clothes.

Her online obituary described how she comforted others who were feeling bad by rubbing their backs and asking if she could pray for them.

“She was such a great spirit to be around,” Price said.
