Leavenworth inmate from Lawrence dies
A Lawrence man serving a sentence at the U.S. Penitentiary in Leavenworth for marijuana trafficking has died, prison officials said Monday.
Officials said that 35-year-old Benjamin Johnson became “unresponsive” Saturday afternoon. Prison staff began CPR, and Johnson was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A cause of death has not been determined pending an autopsy, officials said.
Johnson was admitted to the facility in February 2015. He was serving a sentence of six years and nine months for conspiracy with the intent to distribute marijuana.
