Reward offered for tips leading to arrest of brother in KCK killing

Authorities are offering up to $5,000 in rewards for information leading to the arrest of 19-year-old Kavon Darnel Jones of Kansas City, Kan.

The U.S. Marshals Service in Kansas and the Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers TIPS Hotline on Thursday asked for help in finding Jones, a fugitive charged with first-degree murder.

The U.S. Marshals Service and the TIPS Hotline are offering rewards that would total up to $5,000 for tips leading to his arrest.

Jones was described as a black male, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall with a large scar running vertically on the front of his neck. A new photo of Jones was also released.

To be eligible for the rewards, tips must be submitted through the Crime Stoppers program.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477) or submit tips electronically at www.kccrimestoppers.com or by texting TIP452 along with the information to 274637.

Jones, along with his brother D’Adrian Jones, 20, and Marco McElwee, 18, have been charged with the Sept. 26 shooting death of 21-year-old Clarence Buford in a strip mall parking lot at 43rd Street and State Avenue.

D’Adrian Jones turned himself in to Kansas City, Kan., police on Oct. 20. McElwee was taken into custody and booked Sept. 27, police said.
