An 18-year-old Kansas City man was sentenced Friday to 15 years in prison for his role in a gang sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl.

A Jackson County jury last month found Sterling W. Champion guilty of attempted sodomy, sexual abuse in the first degree and assault. The attack occurred in November 2013 in the 4000 block of East 68th Street. The victim told police she was sleeping when two males woke her and told her to perform a sex act on them. She refused but the two returned with three other teens. The attackers held her down, ripped off her clothes, fondled her and took pictures.

Two other co-defendants have previously been sentenced to prison.
