A Kansas City-area business owner was ordered Wednesday to reimburse nearly $200,000 to employees who were underpaid.

Gary L. Walker pleaded guilty earlier this year to violating the federal Fair Labor Standards Act.

Walker, 51, of Lee’s Summit, was president of Magic Touch Cleaning, and from 2010 to August 2013, the company underpaid its employees by about $98,000 in wages and overtime, according to the terms of Walker’s plea agreement.

At Wednesday’s sentencing in U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Walker was placed on probation for five years and ordered to pay $196,484 to former employees.

“This company’s former employees will not only receive the wages they rightfully earned, but will be paid restitution of twice the amount they were unfairly denied,” U.S. Attorney for Western Missouri Tammy Dickinson said in a written statement.
