Jackson County prosecutors have charged a 21-year-old man in the shooting death of another man whose body was found outside a house in Independence.

Travon M. Williams of Independence is charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the Oct. 30 slaying of Jacobsen L. Laumoli, 27, of Independence.

Police responded to the 20100 block of East 12th Terrace South on a report of shots fired. They arrived and found Laumoli dead from a gunshot wound. Investigators later identified Williams as a person of interest in the shooting.

Williams is accused of shooting Laumoli after a fight broke out during separate Halloween celebrations on East 12th Terrace South. According to court documents, Williams took a gun belonging to a homeowner at one of the residences and fired the weapon at the front door during the fight, striking Laumoli in the back.

Several witnesses saw Williams, who they knew as Trace, fire the shots, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors requested a $300,000 bond.

A preliminary hearing for Williams is scheduled for Nov. 28 in Jackson County Circuit Court.
