Prosecutors accuse KC man of carjacking woman at gas station
Jackson County authorities have accused a 34-year-old man of carjacking a woman’s vehicle at a gas station at 37th Street and Broadway.
Keith B. Hudson of Kansas City was charged with first-degree robbery and receiving stolen property. The incident happened Tuesday morning.
According to court records, a woman told police that a man approached her after she pulled up to a gas station in the 3700 block of Broadway. As she looked in her purse for money, the man opened her car door, placed what she believed was a handgun to her side and told her to get out of the car but to leave her purse inside.
The man got into the car and drove away.
As officers were taking the victim’s report; other officers were in the area of 45th Street and the Paseo when they saw a car matching the description of the one stolen from the gas station.
Officers soon arrested Hudson after he walked into a mobile phone store. They found the victim’s keys in Hudson’s left coat pocket, records say. Officers say they also found other items including credit cards, a passport and a purse.
Prosecutors asked that a cash bond be set at $100,000.
