Two area men are among nearly 100 federal inmates that were granted commuted sentences from President Barack Obama on Thursday.

Anthony D. Dorsey of Kansas City and Rasheed Jamal Olds of Kansas City, Kan. were among 98 people that had their sentences reduced.

Dorsey, 40, was sentenced in 2007 to 20 years in prison for possessing with the intent to distribute crack cocaine. He is expected to be released in October of 2018 with the stipulation that he enroll in residential drug treatment.

Olds, 48, was sentenced to life in prison in 1997 for conspiracy to distribute cocaine and crack cocaine and money laundering. His sentence was amended to 30 years in 2011.

Olds is expected to be released in February after serving nearly 20 years.

Obama has granted 688 commutations this year, more than any other year in American history. He has granted a total of 872 commutations, more than the previous 11 presidents combined.
