Independence police are investigating the brief abduction of a 12-year-old girl who said she was pushed out of a vehicle before she was able to call her parents.

Police said the parents of the girl told them that their daughter did not return home from school on time Tuesday afternoon.

After an extensive search, police said the girl was found about 4:30 p.m. and told them she had been abducted about 3:30 near 23rd Street and Hawthorne Avenue by a tall, thin, white man with short, black hair, driving a white four-door vehicle.

The girl told police that she was driven to Blue Ridge Boulevard and Hardy Avenue and pushed out of the vehicle, where she borrowed someone’s phone to call her parents.

Anyone with information on the suspect or the vehicle should call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (816-474-8477), the Independence Police at 816-325-7777 or send email to leads@indepmo.org.
