Surgery successful for priest who was attacked in Kansas City, Kan.

An 82-year-old Catholic priest attacked last week in Kansas City, Kan., underwent surgery Monday night to repair broken facial bones.

The surgery on the Rev. Thomas Kearns was successful, said the Rev. Mark Mertes, pastor of Blessed Sacrament Church.

Kearns was assaulted on Friday afternoon outside the church at 22nd Street and Parallel Parkway.

He was struck in the face and knocked unconscious. His car and wallet were stolen.

Kansas City, Kan., police are investigating and anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
