Cass County man, 30, shot to death in home
A 30-year-old Cass County man was fatally shot in his home during a fight with another resident early Sunday, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies found the body of William R. Whelan Jr. when they were called to a home in the 24000 block of East 275th Street, southeast of Harrisonville, about 12:30 a.m. Sunday. Witnesses told the deputies that Whelan had been shot during a fight with multiple members of the household.
A 65-year-old man, whom witnesses identified as the shooter, was treated for injuries at a hospital, taken into custody, questioned and then released. The Jackson County medical examiner’s office was to conduct an autopsy.
The Cass County prosecutor’s office is reviewing the case.
