Pedestrian struck in hit-and-run accident in Independence
Independence police say a pedestrian was struck and killed in a hit-and-run accident Friday night.
Police say a 38-year-old man was walking westbound on the north shoulder of U.S. 40 Highway near River Boulevard when he was struck by a single westbound vehicle just before 9 p.m. Friday. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released pending notification of relatives.
The vehicle left the scene westbound on U.S. 40 Highway. It was described as a light-colored sedan, according to police.
The cause of the accident is under investigation. Independence police are asking anyone with information to call 816-325-7300.
